Wow, never heard of that song before, but what a great perspective! Yes, I’ve had a habit of pushing myself too hard in the past too. It took me a long time to realize, “…hey — actually, the wait is pretty magical.” And you know what? Sometimes it doesn’t feel magical at ALL in its moment. But I do my best to try to keep things in perspective and not let a lot of “positive thinking” philosophy convince me that something’s “wrong” and that I therefore need to exhaust myself to break out of any given “rut.” I think that finding this balance is hard for everyone, because we’re all taught constantly that we must “work” to be “worthy” of any measure of happiness or success, so we think that, until we see the results we’re looking for, struggle must be the way to go. But to a large extent, struggle drains. Struggle demoralizes. Struggle demotivates. Sometimes we’re better off just giving ourselves a break for a while and seeing where the pieces fall (we can re-evaluate and take a new strategy later). Like another Rumi quote I love:
“Stop weaving and see how the pattern improves.”
Thanks for offering your thoughts, Gonzalo, and I’m glad you took something useful from the post!
