Yes, I believe that's the biggest problem here. While AI will advance and improve, and hopefully be put to benign uses, the fact that individual human beings are being squeezed out of economic viability, is a huge problem. If my job was gobbled up by AI but I still had the ability to provide for my needs and the freedom to pursue activities I found meaningful, I wouldn't worry. I suspect tons of people feel similarly.
