We did see each other again a few times (just not intimately). Years later, I wrote to tell him that he’d inspired lots of great things for me and that I’d fallen in love with him on that long-ago night. Even though I wasn’t seeking any particular response, I appreciated that he was graciously receptive to hearing it; I couldn’t imagine going forever without ever saying it at all.
