On a side note, any insights on how academic editors can reconnect with their writing voice? I've been in that line of work for 10 years, but I liked my voice WAY more before I began. Spending so much time immersed in academic voices (including non-native English-speaking ones) has made my writing sound "stuffier" and more expository than I'd like to be. It's hard to shift gears. Would love your (or your girlfriend's!) take on this, if you ever explore it in a future piece. :)
