Unfortunately, I cannot even tell you how many times men have spouted the following saying at me:

"There are women you fuck and women you marry."

Joe is simply paraphrasing a cringeworthy, misogynist, emotionally-infantile "truism" that way too many bros already spout.

(Fwiw, I'm not sure if it's a generational thing, but any man who ever said this to me was a millennial. The sentiment behind it is: if you find a woman you're really crazy about and she seems amazing, you should set her aside, because you still 'need' to sow wild oats, to feel like 'a man.' With the "wife-material" woman, you'd be too tempted to care about her and maybe settle down, so you reject her and go on to have flings instead with women you don't admire, care about, or respect as much. Yes, it's toxic AF, and I can gladly proclaim that the men who've said this to me are no longer in my life. It's great to see Joe criticizing the sentiment.)
