This was my first thought too: that the discrepancy owed itself (potentially in large part) to young women considering their hetero connections "a relationship" while, for various cultural reasons, their young male counterparts — their young male partners — were hesitant or unwilling to ascribe the same label, even if just anonymously in a survey.
