This. This is really the crux of it. Body modification — temporary or otherwise — is an ancient art. Humans' desire to treat their body as a canvas they can work is so deep and old within us. Makeup, tattoos, haircuts/wigs/weaves, nail art, shaving/waxing, and plastic surgery, even getting a suntan deliberately, straightening one's teeth, or working out to achieve a particular physique — these are ALL body modification. It upsets me that people throw shade at women for choosing surgery when they don't (usually) stop to examine all these other possible avenues to physical change. Thank you for asking this question.

I had plastic surgery at age 21. I had to overcome some deeply rooted internalized misogyny in order to give myself the permission to do that. But it was honestly one of the best decisions I believe I've ever made for myself; it improved my quality of life enormously.
