That’s an interesting anecdotal perspective about what divorce lawyers observe!

Luckily for married men, on a macro level, social scientists have learned that marriage generally seems to be protective for their wellbeing (physical and mental health), as well as that marriage seems to enhance married men’s earning potential and promotion status at their jobs.

As for life expectancy without marriage, the reason for the gender disparity has to do with the mental (and, in turn, physical) health impacts of social relationships. Women are socialized to know how to find outlets for deep connection and emotional support with a broad variety of possible friends, whereas men are socialized basically just to expect this these types of support exclusively from a romantic partner. Thus the life expectancy differential when a woman loses her partner vs. a man losing his. :(
