Rape and clothes-shaming are not comparable, nor is either one acceptable. However, the fact that bigots laugh at men who wear pink lacy thongs is about the fact that, in our patriarchal world, what is categorized as feminine is considered fair game to assault and demean. Hence: pink, lace, thongs — all generally feminized in our current society. Therefore, a man wearing "feminine" clothes suffers a taste of the patriarchal tyranny.

As the hashtag goes, #thisiswhyweneedfeminism — it protects everyone. (Everyone except abusive people, that is.)
