Oh Jeffrey, I'm sorry your investment didn't pan out. :( Yeah, copyeditors face a similar situation to what you describe: the projects that are already in great shape can often get by with just AI. It's the projects that need tons of corrections that AI can't do, which means the editor faces an especially tough task. :-/
