I'm glad you recognize what we do. Copyeditors are really more like ghostwriters a lot of the time. I have DEFINITELY had to rewrite stuff — in painfully rare cases, basically every single sentence — for writers who struggled substantially. As you can imagine, though, writers who need rewriting often don't even realize how many problems are in their original draft: that's why many of them only want to pay proofreader prices... or use AI instead.
So, please keep singing the praises of copyeditors for everyone who will listen! We need the publicity. ;)
