I would be inclined to agree with you, Jeffrey, and I do think he was mainly just trying to score points. However, this guy felt entitled to make these comments within earshot of the women he was shaming — which is where I think character incontrovertibly comes into play. A person with a more instinctively empathic bent would’ve been far more mindful about the risk of hurting others’ feelings. Doesn’t mean he’s a terrible person, could’ve been simple immaturity, but still not a good sign (at the time). ;)
