I have worked across over half a dozen different industries, reinventing myself over and over again, and I ultimately leaned into research editing not because it was my passion (it never was), but because it was, for a while, the thing that paid the best. AI absolutely has a lot to do with the current state of affairs in this field, as a lot of commenters here can attest.
