I don't follow the Kardashians and didn't know that Kylie said this until I saw your article. Wow... Hopefully she has something genuine to say about the topic and it isn't just bait for the audience.
What strikes me right now as I read though is that Kylie is the youngest of those 5 sisters and supposedly started with lip fillers when she was practically high-school-aged. She herself is a great example of how unrealistic beauty standards harm young adolescents' minds (which you reference above). I actually don't think it's rich at all that she's starting to think about this now that she's firmly into adulthood, around the age where the brain finally becomes fully developed. When you consider the fact that Kylie grew up around the women who literally set the standards — and was expected to resemble those women herself, given the fact that they share DNA... while, simultaneously, not sharing the Kardashians' West-Asian / Mediterranean ancestry (which often does seem to come with curvy bodies, full lips, etc.)... I think it makes a sad lot of sense. :(
All this to say: I agree with you that the Kardashians were vastly responsible for steering us toward such unattainable standards. But I also think there's a very complicated cohort effect at play in Kylie's case....
