Funny enough, further to the larger point of your essay, I noticed (white) men being blind to misogyny in their solidarity posts with the Black community: these men professed that they could do things like "sit idly in my car and read a book" or "go for a jog" — all without fear. Why? Because, as these men claimed, they were white.
They missed a very important qualifier, however: it wasn't because they were white. It was because they were white MEN. Because women couldn't do quite a few of those things without fear, regardless of the woman's race.
It's unfortunate that even progressive men are so often blind to their gender privilege. [And I have witnessed this blindness to gender privilege even when the man in question is a person of color, for the record. It seems to be an equal-opportunity bias. :( ]
