Don't let them stop at this. You can have dangerously low ferritin without anemia. This is why my doctors missed my iron deficiency for DECADES; I was never anemic, but I was very symptomatic. And palpitations can be one symptom. (Fwiw, I had more palpitations when living in China at a time when the air pollution was terrible. In my personal case, I think there was a very strong connection between the palpitations, the lack of iron in my body, and the general fact of the poison-to-oxygen ratio in the air being so unfavorable at that time.)
Not trying to diagnose you, but iron deficiency is no joke, and I'm STILL trying to get (male) doctors to acknowledge that it's a quality-of-life problem even in the absence of anemia.
