All of this is so very well said that I don't think anyone could have said it better. There is so much petty judgment flying around women in the spotlight — what they look like, what they don't look like, whether they did anything to change how they look, why it's a problem if they dared, etc. etc. etc. — that it's unbelievable. You did an excellent job of explaining that plastic surgery is a business strategy in a patriarchal world, where celebrities face even higher standards than the rest of us.

As someone who's had plastic surgery, I sometimes try to put that info out there casually, just to challenge stereotypes about what "kind" of people get work done. My hope is that, in time, people's decisions will have plastic surgery will become a non-issue and people will stop obsessing and being all judge about it. At the same time, I hope that as people stop scrutinizing women's looks, the felt pressure to get plastic surgery will abate as well.

All in all: awesome, no-nonsense, and very compassionate analysis. Thank you for this.
